today is the official first day of summer. i have high hopes for this summer to be a happy and healthy one. i almost signed up for the dirt in your skirt summer 100. i did the winter version last year. you challenge yourself to run 100 miles in 5 weeks during the holidays. it got my butt in gear and i successfully completed it. i do well with specific goals. its was about $30 to register and it was on the honor system, so basically I paid for the medal. but, i don’t like to cheat so i honestly earned my medal, which was a really cool wooden one. i’m trying to save money lately, so i couldn’t justify signing up for the summer 100, but i did get inspired to start my own personal goal oriented summer project. i was also slightly bummed that the summer reading program at the library was for kids only, so my project includes a personalized reading portion.
keeping in the 100 theme and trying to be realistic, i came up with the following summer challenge for myself:
period: first day of summer (6.21.14) to the last day of summer (9.22.14), 94 days total.
100 miles running
75 whole food meals with nothing processed
50 movies i’ve never seen before
the idea with the first 2 is to get healthy and the last 2 add some fun. it will also encourage me to practice writing; journaling my progress, reviewing the books and movies, chronicling the struggles and hopefully working past the hurdles.
i’m excited to get started. it’s going to be a great summer!!
