the x-files project: ep 1:14

the x-files

season 1, episode 14, “gender bender”

aired: 1.21.94

it’s “witness” meets pod people meets really bad porno plot. an amish-like community called the kindred has the ability to seduce and render people helpless with a simple touch. one of the members flees and starts killing people…with sex. “maybe it’s the sex that kills.” omg, hahaha, i laughed out loud at that line. oh yeah, and they are sex-changing aliens. um, ok.

even though the plot is laughable, i was still slightly entertained by it. the danger of one of them using their weird alien sex death touch on scully was distressing. her response when brother andrew first uses the thumb trick on her was well played. she’s confused and she just keeps petting the horse. but, then later when she has her gun on him, he just looks at her and he seems to still have a power over her. so, was it just the touch or is it the residual “spell” cast on her earlier? and then the ending stays true to the trite narrative. the kindred is gone leaving behind a crop circle. oy vay.

rating: 2

wandering thoughts:

love when mulder gets all giddy when he is debriefing scully and doing his slideshow presentations. it kind of makes me lean more toward believing scully’s version in season 5’s “bad blood.”

love the map drop kick and catch bit.

what an awkward dinner party.

notable quotables:

s: “so what is our profile of the killer? indeterminate height, weight, sex, unarmed, but extremely attractive.”

m: “need anything from the feed store?”

m: “i know what i saw, scully, and i saw you about to do the wild thing with some stranger.”

m: “maybe it’s the sex that kills.” gahahahahaaa!
