the x-files project: ep 1:15

the x-files

season 1, episode 15, “lazarus”

aired: 2.4.94

mulder had an appearance of his ex-flame in “fire” and now scully gets hers. her ex-boyfriend comes in the form of FBI agent, jack, who has been investigating a pair of star-crossed bank robber lovers for a year. scully helps him out on the bust and jack gets shot. scully shoots the guy that shot jack and they are both brought to the hospital and share the time of death. scully doesn’t accept that jack is dead and they actually revive him, but something goes wrong. something paranormal happens and poof! it’s an x-file. only scully refuses to believe it’s one. this is one of those where she is too resistant. some of the episodes they write her too skeptical and it’s too bad. how long is she going to hold on to the stress theory? oh, just until her friend pulls a gun on her and takes her hostage. this is “the x-files.” unexplained phenomena is going to win over the quantifiable. and by pitting the leads against each other, the believer will be right most of the time. as a result scully is often wrong and it gets a little exasperating at times. it’s also very unbelievable that the bad guy could take over jack’s life so easily. and scully is supposed to know him very well and she can’t see it until it’s too late. it’s disheartening that she is so opposed to mulder’s theory in this because it makes her out to be on the same side as the FBI agents that ridicule mulder for his beliefs. i like how agent bruskin ends up coming around and defending him at one point. by the end of the episode mulder seems defeated. even his partner gave him shit on this one and he ended up being right and rescuing her.

rating: 2

wandering thoughts:

the romantic homicidal don juan with the blood in the oceans crap. i’m with lula on this one. kill him. he’s fucking annoying.

mulder uses “dana” again.

the agent that goes undercover as the bible salesman has some mad swagger.

shipper’s corner:

scully goes for older guys. mulder is older…

both of them have had relationships with colleagues. i’d say that bodes well for this ship.

mulder’s heart breaks a tiny bit when he comes to see if she’s ok and she ignores him yelling for jack. payback for when he did that with phoebe?

notable quotables:

m: “for those of you who don’t know already, this one’s important to me, so let’s do it right.”
